Yaroslav “NS” Kuznetsov predicts that Dota 2 will continue to exist for about 9 more years, but the player count will drop by half and eventually the game will start losing heavily to competitors.
The streamer and former esports player shared this during a Twitch broadcast.
“Dota has no prospects of surviving forever. This game will end its existence in any case. It’s only a matter of time. These processes don’t happen quickly. According to my predictions, over the next nine years the online will drop by half. It will be somewhere around 200 thousand players. Of course this is still a lot, but you already understand that the trend is going down. The game is becoming outdated morally and physically. It has more and more competitors. The market is being taken over by mobile gaming. Young people will enter Dota 2 less and less”
NS emphasized that Dota 2 will not avoid decline, but this process will not be fast. According to him over the next 9 years the MOBA will lose half of its player base, which will fall to around 200 thousand. While the number still looks solid the trend will be disappointing, as players will move to other projects.
The streamer also noted that mobile gaming is becoming increasingly popular, and Dota 2 itself is already outdated in terms of gameplay, engine and graphics which will eventually lead to a massive player outflow.
