Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov, a streamer and former esports player, believes that canceling the DPC was a mistake as it triggered a series of problems for the Dota 2 community and also destroyed the Tier-2 scene.
He shared his opinion during a Twitch broadcast.
"The cancellation of the DPC is bad. As they say, we don't appreciate something while we have it, but when we lose it, we start missing it. DPC was a good thing. It could be refined, it could be improved. You have a specific and consistent league. The best teams in the regions are determined, then there's the Major where teams meet and the best are determined. Now we have endless tournaments that never stop, transitioning into qualifiers, which then transition into tournaments. The same teams play everywhere, and this endless cycle continues"
He noted that the huge number of tournaments that replaced the DPC had a negative impact on the pro scene. Competitions go on endlessly, and the same teams compete in them. Moreover, Valve's decision also killed the Tier-2 scene.
"Plus, the Tier-2 scene died unexpectedly. Where are they supposed to play? Dendi was playing constantly. Other teams like Nigma and Nemiga played - they at least had practice on those DPCs and could compete for something. But now where do they play? Tier-1 tournaments don't invite them because they don't need them, they can't pass qualifiers, and there's nowhere else for them to play"
NS noted that after the cancellation of the DPC, teams like
B8 or
Nigma Galaxy simply have nowhere to play because they don't qualify for Tier-1 scenes anymore.
Recall that earlier Ilya "Yatoro" mentioned the main problem with canceling the DPC, which reflected on the quality of Dota 2 tournaments.
