Nix has sued Morf

Blogger Morf reported that streamer Alexander “Nix” Levin has sued him for copyright infringement with the aim of getting his channel taken down.

The content creator discussed this on YouTube.

"I won't go into all the details just yet, but judging by the lawsuit, his chances of winning are slim. The funny thing is that he probably doesn't even need this. I think he's counting on YouTube taking down my channel while the court case drags on. And when he loses, the channel will of course be restored, but a lot of time will have passed.

Here’s the good news. The video Nix complained about will remain down for now. However, the strike against my channel has been lifted pending the court’s verdict. So the takedown is on hold for now. I think I’ll have plenty more to say about our hero. Maybe I’ll film a couple more dark stories.”

The conflict began with a strike filed by Alexander “Nix” Levin, Timur “Travoman” Khafizov, and Umn1k against a video by Morf, in which he used a montage of clips from their streams criticizing Alexey “Solo” Berezin. Nevertheless, the content creator is confident that he used the content without violating “fair use” rules, and that his opponents exploited a loophole in the rules to remove unwanted content from the platform.

“An abuse report that will get my channel removed in the coming days. Now you’ll find out how they want to silence me forever and who’s behind it.

I’m contesting the complaint because, in fact, I didn’t violate anything. Yes, there were clips from Nix’s stream—that’s his original content. But this is fully permitted by both YouTube’s policies and the law. It’s called ‘fair use.’ Of course, not every use of content is considered fair use. For example, if you use someone else’s stream as background footage in your video and just sit there silently, you’ll definitely be penalized. But when you’re doing a news or critical review using short clips—that’s not a violation.”

As a reminder, Alexander “Nix” Levin previously apologized for criticizing Team Spirit’s Dota 2 preparation.
