Alexander "Nix" Levin, streamer and former esports player, stated that the group stage format of The International 2024 turned out to be very strange and puts many strong teams at a disadvantage.
He shared this opinion during a Twitch stream.
"The system seems like they wanted to create something unique, but it didn't turn out well. No one gets eliminated from the groups; it's just about seeding. I remember this being an issue last year as well. It's completely unbalanced because one group could be extremely strong while the other is weak. As a result, the first place team ends up playing against the third or fourth, forcing two strong teams to face each other right away"
Nix pointed out that the format only decides the seeding, and no teams are eliminated from the groups. This puts strong teams at a disadvantage, as weaker teams can secure better positions by playing against each other.
"As a result, a strong team that would have beaten many in the upper bracket might end up in the lower bracket. Meanwhile, weaker teams could end up in the upper bracket just because they came from a weaker group"
It’s worth noting that Valve recently issued an unexpected warning to the players of The International 2024.
