Valve also advised the players to be on the alert when answering interviews or posting anything on social media, and that they are representing The International 2024, the community, as well as Dota 2.
This was one of the messages which was contained in a welcome letter published on Reddit on other information related to the tournament participants.
‘So let’s keep that in mind over the days that will be coming: You are all in the esports professional arena. You are yourselves, your side, the game, and Dota society including all the esports. Therefore consider the matters of how you interact with the outside community, may it be after the matches camera interviews or any of your social media. Be aware of the fact that The International is not only being viewed by millions of Dota players but even your parents, or people who may be watching a match for the first time. Make sure you embody the spirit of the event and Dota’
Their advice was that the players should watch out what they say or do on social media because their actions will be assessed in detail. One reason, howbeit not defined in the official papers, that Valve chose to warn the participants is perhaps to avoid any potential scandals wherein people’s actions might be taken out of context, especially with regards to the Dota 2 World Championship.
