When TORONTOTOKYO had not been expelled from BetBoom Team, he was not out for being a friend of Egor "Nightfall" Grigorenko but his skills, according to Alexander “Nix” Levin. The player called him a nepotist.

This brave declaration was uttered during a Twitch broadcast stream.

“Why hasn’t BetBoom Team kicked TORONTOTOKYO? Because he is Nightfall’s friend. For five hours every day Egor was on Discord with him, teaching him how to play and watching demos together. Before Spirit added TORONTOTOKYO, he was feeding in public games. Every night Egor would spend hours going through the replays with him. In essence, Egor taught him Dota”

Nix says that Nightfall trained the player personally and the only reason why he is still on the squad is because of their relationship. What is more, according to the streamer, someone pulled strings for them to get into the team.

“When illias didn’t work out they began looking for 5 positions as Nightfall has few friends. Since at that time Egor’s teammate in Team Liquid had already quit playing with a Spirit tag over his nickname and became friends with TORONTOTOKYO, therefore it was decided that he would move on to support role as well and thus it worked out for Illias who also joined TL.” Besides, Nightfall promised to teach him if necessary. That’s actually nepotism; it wasn’t taken based his skill but friendship”

No comment yet from either TORONTOTOKYO or Nightfall about these severe accusations by a famous streamer.

Note that recently TORONTOKYO set an unenviable world record in Dota 2 at Riyadh Masters 2024.
