Miroslav “Mira” Kolpakov, the ex-support of
Team Spirit, explains the reason behind Dota 2 players frequently losing half their pub matches by highlighting the non-existence of the 50% system in Dota 2.
The esports athlete addressed this popular myth during a Twitch stream.
“50/50 System? There’s no such structure as that, brother. It’s a fantasy created by Dota players. If a 10k player goes to 6k, he’ll win every match. Why don’t he get matched with worse players? Because he’s better. And that’s the point— if you want to climb, you just have to be better than everyone else at your rank. If you play like the rest of your MMR bracket, you’re not supposed to climb— that’s your actual rank. Therefore, the 50/50 effect only happens when you’re at your appropriate MMR. If you’re not learning anything new, then you should stay at your rank"
The two-time world champion stressed that this applies to every role in his last statement. Additionally, he highlighted that the interference of a system that alters win rates is a notion that stems from players’ unwillingness to take responsibility. He said that people self-conspiratize when there isn’t a conspiracy.
Mira explained that players must strive to better their gameplay if they are to rank up since failing to do so means that they will stagnate at the rank that they have earned.
Mira spoke for the first time about his new Dota 2 roster a few months ago.
