A new bug related to the
Meepo character has been discovered in Dota 2. Using this bug, players can not only cause their own game client to crash but also bring down the game server.
To reproduce the bug, a player must purchase two
Town Portal Scrolls on one of their
Meepo clones and activate both items. Afterward, the scrolls must be sold on the main character. As soon as the player completes all these steps, the Dota 2 client will crash: the user will be kicked back to the desktop, and the game server will stop functioning.
Thus, the discovered vulnerability allows standard in-game items to be used to force a critical error. Furthermore, no third-party programs or additional client modifications are required to perform this sequence of actions.
As a reminder, the developers had previously disabled
Meepo in Dota 2 matchmaking due to a critical bug.
