Vladimir Kuzminov, also called “Maelstorm,” explained on his Telegram channel that the new matchmaking changes in Dota 2’s Immortal Draft will impact only a couple thousand people and make life more difficult for analysts, but the wider player base will not notice the difference.
Maelstorm mentioned that players over 8500 will be affected, but lower ranked players won’t see too much change. Kuzminov admitted that stat portals and analysts will suffer, but eventually find alternative ways of gathering information.
“Overall, ****. Stat guys are having a tougher time, but it’s what it is, right? We'll figure out how to prepare for matches, but in the end we all have to wait and see. Trend watching is still a thing on streams. Info is out there, just people don’t give a hoot. Maybe poor YouTube demo breakdown channel is getting wrecked the most. It sucks, but they figure stuff out, and, at the end of the day, 2-3 thousand people out of the millions who are playing or watching this clip will be impacted by that? Whatever helps fix the exploit, the better, right?”
The commentator pointed out why this update stands out; it tackles a Dota 2 vulnerability that might help fix the smurfing problem.
Previously, Valve undertook some drastic changes to the matchmaking system of Dota 2 in one of the updates.
