Johan “n0tail” Sundstein has been playing Dota 2 for many years now and has made a name for himself in the esports world. He revealed that towards the early stages of his career, his monthly income was a measly $200, something which he considers downright theft.
He shared this information in detail in a video that was uploaded on
OG Youtube Channel recently.
“When they merged our roster with Fnatic, it was because their team was underperforming. Immediately, we understood that we could go from no salary to a position where we were getting paid. If I remember correctly, it was around $200 – so yes, it was theft. But at least I had something to show at home,” he said while explaining.
According to N0tail, this is how much he can call theft even by 2012 standards. But he explained that prior to that he was paid nothing at all, so it was great in comparison. He explained that he was able to show something to his parents – that he was actually earning money by playing esports.
The champion insider even further turned the narrative stating that he essentially made himself an employee and later came to understand that he did not pay himself enough.
“Back then, it was like paying myself a reward with the prize money. I distributed portions of the prize money but, to my shock, I ended up receiving an annual salary that was much lower in comparison to the money that I had allocated. So it looks like I ended up losing"
