The cancellation of the Dota Pro Circuit will have a catastrophic impact on tier-2 teams, practically destroying the scene for such teams.
This opinion was expressed by the well-known streamer Johan "Gorgc" Stephansson during a Twitch broadcast. The corresponding segment was published on the YouTube channel Ez Dotes.
"I have a controversial opinion for those who say that canceling the DPC will improve Dota. I think because of this, the tier-2 scene will practically die. At least, no one will watch it. That's the main problem. It's one of the reasons people praised the DPC because it gave a chance to players from the tier-2 scene"
However, he believes that Valve had a serious reason to cancel the DPC – match-fixing.
"People sometimes watched the tier-2 scene. The only thing I didn't like about the tier-2 scene is that it was permeated with match-fixing and bets on them. But there wasn't much of that in Western Europe. I'm ready to bet that it was a serious problem in China. I think Valve decided to abandon it precisely because of that"
Recall that Valve decided to cancel the DPC in the next season, which has already significantly affected the player transfer market, giving teams considerable freedom.
