Gaimin Gladiators declined the rematch against
Team Falcons not because they didn't want to face
Team Spirit but because they wanted to take a day off. The team was content with any seeding result.
This admission was made by Eric "tOfu" Engel, the support player for GG, during a post-match interview at BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024.
"I don't know if there's some drama developing there. It was actually a day off for all teams, but we had a tiebreaker with four teams, which we thought would take a lot of time. And of course, Quinn would be playing. But we had already planned some activities; we wanted to go skydiving, which is what we ended up doing. We simultaneously wanted to bail and wanted to stay because we wanted to play against Xtreme, so we needed to lose. And we just suggested, 'Guys, can we just skip this and finally go relax?'"
Recall that the tournament organizers reported that Quinn "Quinn" Callahan and Stanislav "Malr1ne" Potorak, the midlaner of
Team Falcons, refused to replay to avoid facing
Team Spirit in the final. The outcome of the match was decided by a coin toss.
Nevertheless, due to this decision,
Gaimin Gladiators ended up facing their opponents from The International 2023, managing to defeat
Team Spirit with a decisive score of 2:0 and humiliating their opponents after the match.
