Fans have labeled the monetization strategy of Dota 2 as overly aggressive. This opinion was expressed by members of the Dota 2 community on Reddit after Valve's official statement, where the company admitted that this year the chances of rare items dropping from Frostivus chests had been reduced.
"The Overwatch sub is mad that they can't get everything in the christmas event for $5 and they would have to spend $35 for it...meanwhile Dota whales are spending hundreds for a .09% to .9% CHANCE to get rare items lmfao. Valve has won the monetization game." wrote a player with the username Quiet_Bit_5397.

User counter-music commented:
"Spend the $20 on the skin rather than the gamble box."
It's worth noting that a new update, 7.35b, has been released for Dota 2.
Team Spirit has already commented on the new additions.
