One of the most captivating threads of the Dota unfolding saga is the role of demons, and their planes, which has been interwoven into the fabric of the game along the timeline. Tell us, how can such perverse and villainous characters be created? But before we answer that, let us dig deeper into the game and understand the planes of these demons and how they integrate into the game.
Who Are the Demons in Dota 2?

Demons in Dota 2 are known as a loose affiliation of extremely powerful beings, often with selfish and egotistical tendencies, who emerged in the Seven Hells and other infernal planes of the Abysm, Aziyog, and Foulfell, a prison dimension. Often, these Demons are at the top of Dota’s hierarchy of evil, being conquerors of evil in whichever dimension they rule.

Among the notable ones are the ones made famous in Dota 2 as demon content:
Doom (Lucifer): One of the most wicked out of the rest is 'Lucifer', called 'Lucifash' in the Ozkavosh languages, who amazes everyone with his wickedness and bloodlust, is the same Ozkavosh language used by many as demon. The same demon is said to possess bonds over the seven hells. This demon is immensely powerful and can single handedly conquer both the hell and material realm without any effort, however prefers to watch mortals rather than interfere in their business.
Shadow Fiend (Nevermore): A maleferous demonic spirit who is a master of multiversal travel who is able to harvest souls and send their essences to the Abysm, Shadow Fiend possesses formidable strength. However, his ranking in the demonic hierarchy is still below that of both Doom and Shadow Demon.
Shadow Demon: He is representative of the threatening nature of demonic summoning, yet the Shadow Demon is different as he voluntarily becomes part of the Material Plane. He does this by controling everything that the summoners do, to the extent that all of them are left mindless, making him a clever and dangerous individual.
Terrorblade: He is one of the most infamous ones out there for he is one of the many underworld demon lords of Dota 2 that was trapped in Foulfell for a long while, but terrorblade broke the prison by looking through it’s fractal walls and coming face to face with himself. The unique quality he possesses is that he is in complete control of the demon within him, unlike his fellow Kind.
Queen of Pain (Akasha): Despite her being a member of the Court of Ristul and an Incubus demon Queen of Pain is not considered a full fledged demon lord. However, she was called by demonologists in order to provide torment and pain which did make her influential amongst the masses due to her legendary status.
Maraxiform, Eztzhok, and Abzidian: These lesser-known demons each have their own impact on the lore. An instance of this is the fact that Maraxiform fought Clinkz, and both died in that fight, and now Clinkz has Maraxiform’s head as a weapon.
Demon Factions and Realms in Dota 2
Few please Lore Dota 2 as much as the Demon Realms and Factions. Some familiar ones are as follows:
Demons of the cataract: One of the more powerful and sinister subsidiaries known for its great influence.
Abyssal Horde: Another important faction, which seems to be associated with dark side of the demonic rule.
Court of Ristul: Somewhat more elegant but deadly factions, which include Shadow Fiend and Queen of Pain among others.
Interesting Facts About Demons in Dota 2
Doom position is more unique: Unlike several other demons, Doom can be found strolling along the material and the infernal planes. He is a feared demon lord which makes even other demons frightened to work against him never mind what race does he belong to.
Terrorblade’s Imprisonment: The imprisonment of Terrorblade on Foulfell is unique in the way that he was forced to deal with the sinister aspects of his nature. He did not slip into the madness however, rather he subdued it and broke free from it. This moment of self-reflection makes him more lethal as compared to the other demons.
Warlock’s Golem: Warlock doesn’t qualify as a demon, but via his Dreadwood staff he brings forth a strong demonic force that embodies an Outer Hell demon. Even Terrorblade would pay heed to the existence and power of Warlock’s golem.
Lion's Demon Graft: An example of such a character is the hero Lion who is a character with demonic possession. He had his hand transplanted with that of a demon which was why he was always disfigured. This integration causes him to change over time and so Lion ends up being a half demon half human instead.
One of the other few mortals known to speak Ozkavosh is The Legion Commander, Tresdin and perhaps her connection to the dark side in the lore caused this.
