Samuel "Boxi" Svahn, support player for
Team Liquid, revealed that he can’t play Dota 2 without wearing sunglasses due to sensitivity to light. He finds it especially challenging to compete in tournaments due to the bright stage lights.
The esports player discussed this during an interview with KIBER.
"Can eye sensitivity be fixed? I don’t think so. I asked an eye specialist. We ran some tests, and she said that my eyes will remain sensitive. Blue eyes are even less resilient to light, possibly because of pigmentation.
It’s gotten worse with age. I don’t know if it’s because I play too much or just from aging. But it’s not something I want to fix right now. It doesn’t affect me outside of Dota. You know, sitting in front of a monitor all day isn’t exactly normal, but even at home, it’s not a problem.
On stage, with all the bright lights and spotlights directed at me… that’s when it gets tough. But now I have regular sunglasses. And a hood, though sometimes they don’t allow me to wear it. At least the sunglasses are permitted. I think it’s fine"
According to the Dota 2 world champion, while playing at home isn’t an issue, tournaments present a real challenge. He explained that the bright lights negatively affect his eyes, and without the hood, which is sometimes not allowed, it’s even harder.
Previously, Ilya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk mentioned that he was interested in playing for
Team Liquid after leaving
Team Spirit.
