Andrey “Afoninje” Afonin recently stated that his desire to grow himself as a streamer was the reason why he turned down an offer to be Team Spirit coach.

The esports player shared this during a Twitch stream.

“I will always remember that decision ‘cause it hurts a bit. It was 2020 and I was offered a team to coach. In hindsight, I would have loved that opportunity, but back then I assumed I will be a streamer. I really wasn’t serious so I told him I may consider it, but not in the near future. I said, ‘I’m definitely not going now,’ and that was it. At some point I did stop streaming to play Dota, but learned I was simply incapable of playing the game I loved and also being a streamer, which did not work in my favor”

Afoninje stated that he did have conversations with Dmitry “Korb3n” Belov regarding the coaching position, but purely for the sake of conversation since he was mostly focused on streaming. Eventually, he moved back to the professional scene, but as a player. He said that if he ever changed those conversations into reality, then he would have certainly become the coach of Team Spirit. Still, he wonders what would have happened to him had he had to face that reality.

He jokingly added that winning TI10 would have made me wholly walk away from Dota 2 after getting such lucrative rewards for the championship.

Korb3n previously mentioned that he offered Afoninje a coaching role with Team Spirit, and he was not joking.
