Ilya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk believes that modern Dota 2 tournaments have lost their value for both players and viewers. According to the esports player, although there were fewer championships during the DPC era, their importance was much higher.
The player shared his opinion on YouTube.
“Tournaments have definitely lost their value for players and viewers. For example, you used to compete in the DPC. There was a clear plan and few tournaments per year. There was the league, then a very important major, because back then there was no Riyadh Masters. It was very important for you to stay at the top in your region and on the international stage. Now that system is gone.”
According to Ilya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk, some of the tournaments that award points to teams after the emergence of the Riyadh Masters series remain important, but a number of events, such as PGL Wallachia, are becoming less important due to oversaturation. Moreover, the player recommends paying more attention to LAN tournaments and skipping online events.
"There are tournaments that award points because the Riyadh Masters has appeared in the ecosystem. But third-party tournaments like PGL Wallachia have become less important because there are too many of them. There is oversaturation. As a viewer, I would probably be interested in watching significant championships.
I would follow LAN and skip online tournaments. I would also watch interesting matches on studio LAN. From a viewer's point of view, most tournaments are absolutely identical. You don't get any pleasure from the fact that a team takes first place in them."
Earlier, Vladimir “No[o]ne” Minenko talked about how he wanted to invite Ilya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk to join
PARIVISION's Dota 2 team.
