Two weeks of the DPC league are over. Teams from all over the world have already played enough matches. Now we can take a look at the statistics and see which heroes are the most popular in all regions.
Certainly, each region has its own popular heroes. However, for a general presentation, we need a table which would show us the common statistics of all regions.
We have chose the heroes according to next criteria:
- how many times the hero was banned and picked in all matches and regions, in the upper and lower divisions;
- the hero has to be popular in at least three out of six regions.
Based on this, the 15 most popular heroes can be identified. In table Below is shown winrate and the number of matches where they were picked or banned. Statistics compiled and verified according to Dotabuff and Liquipedia. Some win percentages have been rounded for viewing convenience.
Southeast Asia and China

CIS and Europe

North and South America

After a few weeks of the DPC season, we can single out the heroes that are more common than others on the professional scene:
- Puck appears in picks/bans in almost 92% of DPC matches in all regions;
- Nyx Assassin is picked or banned in 88.6% of matches;
- Batrider flies in 76.6% of DPC matches of the season;
- Mars almost caught up with the previous hero, Dota fans could see the "god of war" in the game or in the banlist in 73.5% of matches.
The rest of the heroes are less common than these four. It is rather difficult to define the fifth hero unequivocally, since in this case his participation in the games is highly dependent on the region.
It is also worth noting those heroes who were not included in this list. They are found only in one or two regions, and are quite popular there.
Riki
He could often be seen in Southeast Asia. He also caught the eye of audiences in Europe and North America. However, more often he is on ban. Even in lost games, he showed himself as a dangerous opponent and caused a lot of damage. Therefore, even weaker teams try to take it whenever it’s possible. In Asia, Riki has only 45% wins, has been selected 11 times and banned in 21 maps. In Europe and North America, teams do not allow this hero to play at all. He took part only in 10 matches in both regions and was banned in 32. Win rates are 60% and 40% in each region, respectively.
Witch doctor
Loved by players from North and South America. Has a fairly high percentage of victories: 69% and 63%, respectively. Despite the fact that the hero is often chosen in professional matches, he is almost never banned. In total, he played 32 games in both regions, and was banned only 6 times. Simple and good support for players at all levels.
Pangolier
He is a frequent guest in the matches of Asia and China. In SEA he was played in 15 games with 53% of wins. In China, he was taken less often, but more successful - 67% of victories. Mostly, Pango was played by professionals from the upper divisions, but in teams from lower divisions he practically does not appear.
Tidehunter
A good choice for massive fights, according to players from Southeast Asia and CIS. Therefore, most often he is on the list of banned heroes. The percentage of victories is not particularly impressive: only 56% in CIS and 50% in Southeast Asia. In Asia, he was allowed to take in only two matches! A lot of teams don't want to see him against themselves.
Morphling
This is another hero that constantly appears in the banlist during the matches of teams from the above regions. In Asia, they show not the best results, only 43% in 7 matches. But in the CIS players forgot to ban him in only 5 matches, and he won 4. In every region, especially in the upper divisions, there are professionals who can play on this hero perfectly. And that's why teams try not to let the hero appear in the opponent's draft.
Io and Queen of Pain
These heroes were able to show themselves a little in Southeast Asia and won 67% of matches. Then they remained in the ban list.
Tusk, Elder Titan and Oracle
They are the most popular heroes in China. Oracle has 70% of wins, Elder Titan 58%. But Tusk, which is one of the most picked heroes in CN, has only 33% wins in 15 games. And many people are wondering why a hero with so many defeats remains so popular in the region.
Shadow Shaman
Show himself well in North America with 60% wins in 10 games. A hero with huge control, which is great at the line stage and late. Aghanim's Shard for this hero is recognized by the community as one of the most successful.
Invoker and Phantom Lancer
Suddenly they were at the top of the most banned heroes in South America. Invoker has a 75% win rate in 8 matches and was banned in 23 maps. Also, players from SA don’t like Phantom Lancer. He played 9 games and was banned in 20 games. And the percentage of victories is extremely low, only 33%.
However, there are a few heroes that absolutely were absolutely forgotten by all professional teams. Bane, Dazzle, Faceless Void, Huskar, Necrophos, Sven, Tinker, beloved Pudge by everyone and hated Techies. They were either taken and banned once in matches, or they did not meet at all among the spectators of professional eSports players.
We would like to mention many more interesting heroes, but for various reasons professional teams do not pay much attention to them. There are almost four weeks left until the end of the DPC league. Perhaps viewers will still see some of the unpopular heroes in professional games.
