Because the former esports player did not file tax declarations and did not pay taxes on salary and prize money, he was sentenced to one year suspended, 200 hours of community service and a $350 thousand fine.
It is also noted that the player had to take out loans and take several jobs to repay such debt to the tax authorities. In addition it is stated that he was facing real jail time but full cooperation with the police saved him from harsh punishment.
Interestingly the fine turned out to be extremely large, considering that during his career the Danish player earned $431,821 according to Liquipedia. In other words the player had to give about 81% of his total prize money to the tax office.
The player himself noted that during his active years contracts were not ideal and he believed that tax matters were handled automatically admitting that he should have paid more attention to this issue.
