In Counter-Strike 2, Valve has completely revamped the Major host format and it is set to take effect at the 2025 championships. There will now be 32 teams per tournament as opposed to 24. For another, it has been added a new stage that follows Swiss system, which allows for significantly longer duration of some events and some tournaments are said to last 3-4 more days
This information was not comprehensive. It was published in an online rulebook that Valve has released to the GitHub platform.
It was also made some changes to the system for distributing slots and instead of RMR qualifiers there will be other tournaments called Major Regional Qualifiers (MRQ). There will be 16 teams from Europe, 16 from the Americas, and 8 from Asia Participation in these qualifiers will allow one to get an entry into MRQ matches which will be held over the internet. The six best teams from the American regional qualifier and the six best teams from the European one, and the four best teams from the Asian MRQ will proceed to the first stage of the Major. But this system has also raised some concerns from the fans who are afraid that the matches will tug out for too long, or even worse that there will be some regional abominations during the qualifiers.
In the first stage of the Major, we’ve got the top eight teams that would join previously invited teams, and the total would reach eight in numbers. The invitations would be determined as follows: an invite would be given to all of the regions that reached top 16 during the previous major’s third stage (One invite per region from different teams).
For the third stage in the same competition, the same rules prevail whereby each region that reached the top eight levels of participation in the previous tournament is entitled to one slot.
Importantly, fans were also pleased when one of the
Team Spirit players without prior arrangements received the title of Star Player by Valve.
