Valve has officially launched the long-awaited Dark Carnival event for Dota 2. The first chapter of this large-scale story event, titled Night Escape, is now available to all players for free. The event introduces a brand-new narrative adventure, a progression system similar to Crownfall, plenty of cosmetic rewards, and five new Automaton Personas.
"Play Dota and fight your way through a spider-legged train packed with deadly robots, heartbreaking secrets, and unique rewards in this massive story event, free for all players."
Gameplay
At the heart of Dark Carnival is a journey aboard the
Ringmaster's enormous train, where players gradually unlock new areas of the map. Progress is made by playing regular Dota 2 matches and earning special tickets, which can be spent to unlock story nodes, mini-games, and additional rewards. Alongside the event, Valve has also introduced five Automaton Personas for
Axe,
Oracle,
Bristleback,
Legion Commander, and
Morphling.
Rewards
Players can earn treasure chests, discount coins, Candyworks candies, and four exclusive cosmetic sets for
Phantom Assassin,
Crystal Maiden,
Invoker, and
Magnus by progressing through the event. Valve has also added the new Treasure of Wonder, featuring 15 cosmetic sets, including a Persona set for Pudge.
Price
The main Dark Carnival storyline is completely free for all players. However, access to hidden rooms containing additional quests, rewards, and story content requires purchasing the Secret Rooms Bundle, priced at $15. The bundle also includes a themed creep set, a music pack, and special tickets used to unlock secret areas.
Dark Carnival is one of the largest story-driven events Dota 2 has received in recent years. Valve is once again focusing on long-term progression with gradually expanding content, meaning players can expect additional chapters and more rewards in the weeks ahead.
