Vitaliy «v1lat» Volochay, the commentator from Maincast studio, criticized the new Twitch rules regarding advertising on his Telegram channel:
Twitch has released a small rule update. Now, in test mode, they will run ads on streamers' channels, on those channels that do not themselves launch ads, embedded Twitch ads.
What is it? Each streamer in his streamer panel has a button "Start advertising", when he clicks it, his viewers see one or more commercials. The ad revenue is split between the streamer and the twitch in different proportions depending on the streamer and its popularity. And this system only works for Ninja and Shroud. Since no one buys advertising through Twitch in the CIS, and there is critically little of it, then even the largest Russian-speaking channels, if they fulfill Twitch's requirement to spin embedded ads for 6 minutes per hour, they will receive a penny. Real pennies. For a conventional Iceberg, it will be about $100 per month, but for this he will have to press ads 6 minutes per hour every day, every stream. It's clear that for the sake of $100, no one will risk the comfort of their viewer and press a button.
How did Twitch fix the issue with streamers not pressing the button? Elementary. Now if you don't press ads because you don't want to distract the viewer from an important match, or from an interesting segment, Twitch will do it for you automatically. Whether you want it or not. Streamers from this will still receive pennies in the CIS, and the viewer will receive advertising in the decisive clutch with a score of 15:14 in CS, in the decisive fight under the throne in Dota, and in other moments in which advertising is not at all desirable. And knowing that this ad annoys both the streamer and the viewer.
