The most popular Dota 2 hero in the history of The International has been named

Crystal Maiden is the most popular hero in Dota 2's history at The International, being picked in almost every fifth match of the world championship.

Statistics have it, Crystal Maiden has been played 666 matches which participated in all Dota 2 world championships (18%) out all total matches at The International. Importantly, despite a large number of games, the win rate of crystal maiden stands impressively at 57.21%.

Nyx Assassin comes second with 517 played matches (14.06%), but its winning percentage is slightly lower – only 56.87%.

The one with the highest win rate, however, is Broodmother. This hero has won more than half of all The International games with a win rate at 59.77%. Nevertheless, it has been played much less often —only 174 games (4.73% of all games).

Please note that Valve was requested to remove one Dota 2 heroes due to this critical matchmaking bug.
