Ilya "Illidan" Pivtsaev,
Team Spirit streamer, stated that The International 2024 is the last world championship in Dota 2 that holds the highest significance for esports players. Moving forward, Riyadh Masters will become the main tournament of the year, according to the streamer.
He shared this during a Twitch stream.
"The prize pool of TI is still higher than any other tournament except Riyadh. So, it shouldn't be completely diminished. But I think this is the last year when TI is valued more than Riyadh"
In Illidan's opinion, by next year, Riyadh Masters 2025 will surpass TI15 in importance, although The International will still remain a significant tournament for professional players. However, he also mentioned that Riyadh Masters has its own problems, with the biggest being the broadcast delay. Nonetheless, the streamer predicts that this issue will be resolved, and Riyadh Masters will become the main championship of the year for Dota 2.
The decreasing value of TI is also echoed by esports players. For example, Miroslaw "Mira" Kolpakov admitted mid-season that for him, Riyadh Masters 2024 was more important than The International 2024, even if the prize pool difference was only a few dollars.
It’s worth noting that a recent insider revealed surprising potential locations for The International 2025 next year.
