Dmitry “Korb3n” Belov, Team Spirit manager, pointed out that there are instances where it is even possible for a team to be invited directly to a tournament provided that the team has achievements and that it does not have to go through a qualifier first.

It has been noted that these words were spoken during a Twitch stream.

“Invites are logical. They are issued based on achievements. Obviously, for ESL events, they are awarded according to EPT points. For other tournaments like BLAST, they are distributed based on achievements. If your team is unknown, you’ll get an invite to the closed qualifiers. If there aren’t particularly famous players but there are achievements—like at least reaching the closed qualifiers or securing good placements like semifinals—then you’ll also get an invite”

He has noted that for ESL tournaments, one requires having a certain number of points for them to be able to receive an invitation, while for other competitions, there is quite an easier way of receiving an invite: simply having well-known players on the team earns that team an invite.

What Korb3n seems to be suggesting is that even if a team may lack big name players, winning other tournaments gives that team prominent importance, enough to get a direct invite to the main event instead of playing closed qualifiers, as outcome overrides the lack of famous players.

As we reported earlier, Myroslav “Mira” Kolpakov recently appealed to the fans with quite a statement.
