sikle has found evidence of a new item in Dota 2

Mark “sikle” Lerman has found evidence that Valve is working on adding a new item to Dota 2. It will likely be added in the next major patch.

The Team Spirit analyst shared this information on Telegram.

“I love the Valve console—it’s always spitting out something. For example, that’s how I found out about Largo’s name shortly before the release, since the effects were in the /hero_largo/ folder. Now, in addition to the already annoying bugs with missing courier icons, a couple of sprite effects, and set icons, something else is catching my eye: failed to localize: ‘#DOTA_DeityBlessing_ChooseTitle’

An error occurred while attempting to translate a string that hasn’t been released yet. This phrase isn’t a surprise to anyone: Stepan has already written about the “Deity’s Blessing.” I did some digging and found a little more information:

  • It will be a paid item; its starting price is unknown.

  • For every purchase made by an ally, the price decreases by 150 😛.

  • Currently, there are 9 effects in the game.

  • The effects are tied to sides, meaning the same effect cannot be selected by members of the same team.

  • The effect does not wear off upon death, so it lasts either for a certain period of time or until the end of the match.

  • The choice of effect and who received it will be displayed in the chat, just like with the Shard.

  • Flayed Twins and Omniscience have been trying to introduce this into the game for many years.

So far, this is just speculation, as they might abandon the concept, but at this stage, it looks like a new mechanic for a major patch rather than a temporary one for an event. Nothing can be said for certain; they might completely overhaul it by release or abandon it altogether. The Blessing itself has been added and is located next to the Tome of Aghanim, which, aside from raising an ability’s level beyond the maximum, has no further details.

Mark “sikle” Lerman discovered a new Deity Blessing system in the Dota 2 files, which is presumably a paid item with nine unique effects that persist after death and may become part of a major update. For now, all information is based on data from the game client, so Valve may change the concept or abandon it altogether.

As a reminder, data miners previously found references to the “Aganim’s Labyrinth” event in Dota 2’s files. It’s speculated that it might return in an updated form as part of the Dark Carnival.
