Troels Lyngholt “syndereN” Nielsen believes that in order to attract new audiences to the game it is necessary to offer a simplified mode, which is well realized in League of Legends, but ignored by the developers of Dota 2.
The corresponding opinion was shared by the caster on YouTube.
“The best way is to involve newcomers unfamiliar with the game not in Dota itself, but in its simplified version, because the threshold of entry is really high. League of Legends has an ARAM mode: 3 on 3 on the mid. There the games are faster, about 15 minutes, everyone gets random heroes, you don't have to worry much about choosing items, mechanics, lines. It hooks people, then the Dota bug bites them, and they get involved. Valve didn't do that, customizations are made for people who are already playing.”
Caster believes that if developers at Valve don't want to promote a game out of principle, they need to come up with a way to get people interested on their own. As an example Troels Lyngholt “syndereN” Nielsen cited his brother, who didn't want to play the early versions of Dota due to his fascination with Diablo II, but could get addicted to the uncomplicated gameplay for a few hours. The commentator also believes that the only region where Dota 2 is still actively distributed is Eastern Europe.
“If you can't advertise a game out of principle, you have to make people want to do it themselves. 15-20 years ago I tried to show my brother Dota, but he didn't want to play it, he was immersed in Diablo II; if I could offer him something simple for 2 hours - that's how distribution happens. That's what happened with Dota, wasn't it: the game was simpler, people got involved easily. New young players, who are 15-17 years old, are from the regions where the game spreads itself: Eastern Europe.”
Recall that earlier Dmitry “Korb3n” Belov told why he thinks League of Legends is better than Dota 2.
