Oleg "Stray228" Bocharov believes that the reason for the toxicity in the modern Dota 2 community lies in the game being free-to-play.
The renowned streamer made this statement during the "Hosts on Wheels" podcast on the BetBoom Esports YouTube channel.
"The Dota community is the most toxic when it comes to online games. I don't know where it could be more toxic. Because the game is free, that's it. CS was initially paid. The inception of CS:GO was also paid. Plus, Dota has been around since the first part and Warcraft."
The first Dota was released back in 2003 as a modification for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Work on the second installment began in 2009 when Valve offered the original creator to join the team. The game was released in 2013 on the Source engine, after which it was ported to the eponymous second-generation engine. Even before the official release, Valve management stated that the game would be distributed under a free-to-play license.
Recall that earlier, the renowned caster Vladimir "Maelstorm" Kuzminov forecasted the elimination of
Gaimin Gladiators from the DreamLeague Season 22 championship.
