Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu believes that players used to treat Dota 2 tournaments as entertainment, but now major events are viewed as work.
The player shared this opinion on Twitch.
“The difference between small tournaments back then and tournaments now is that there’s much more at stake. People treat the tournaments we play for prize money as a job, not just a hobby. Back then, we were just a group of passionate people who got together, had fun, and enjoyed ourselves. Of course, losing is always unpleasant, but defeat didn’t feel like the end of the world. But now, when your job is to compete and win, there’s much more at stake. The pressure is greater, and the results matter much more.”
According to a statement by Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu, the Dota 2 community used to consist of enthusiasts who gathered at tournaments to enjoy the game. However, large prize pools are now at stake, which has brought the commercial aspect to the forefront.
