Saudi Arabia plans to invest $500 million in the creation of an Esports City in Riyadh. This complex is designed to support the local eSports scene and attract international professional Dota 2 players and teams. The project includes a 20,000-seat stadium, with completion expected by the end of next year.
In July, a large-scale eSports festival, Gamers8, will take place in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. As part of the event, the Riyadh Masters 2023 Dota 2 tournament will be held with a prize pool of $15 million. Participants will include the champion of DreamLeague S19, the finalists of DreamLeague S20, and five teams that have shown the best results in both seasons of DreamLeague. An additional slot in the tournament will be competed for in Closed Qualifiers in the MENA region.
In blog, where Valve announced the cancellation of the Battle Pass for The International, they also stated that they are already negotiating the venue for The International 2024. It is likely that the main Dota 2 tournament of the year in 2024 will be held in the eSports City in Riyadh.
Valve:
We're excited for the future of Dota and for what these changes allow us to do. We're already working on the next updates, and a host of new cosmetic items — and we've already started conversations with venues for TI 2024.
