Quinn “Quinn” Callahan stated that current Dota 2 tournaments have become monotonous, while earlier events surprised players and spectators as they were held all over the world.
The corresponding opinion of the player shared on YouTube.
“It really is some Groundhog Day. Part of the appeal and spectacle of Dota - for players and spectators alike - came from the following thoughts: wow, some random venue; there's a new crowd there; different teams with different play styles; it's a home tournament for someone. Remember, there were events in Poland, then Malaysia, then the Philippines, then Romania, then the U.S. - everywhere, and a lot of them had spectators.”
Quinn “Quinn” Callahan also noted the importance of having spectators at eSports events. The player believes that although organizing a stage requires additional expenses on the part of the tournament operator, the presence of spectators makes the events more exciting.
“The same StarLadder, where there were also spectators, albeit not many. I realize that in many cases it doesn't make sense from a financial point of view, but I think that watching, playing and working at a tournament feels special when there are people around, not when you just show up for a 9-to-5, get paid and go home - that's how these studio tournaments feel.”
As a reminder, Quinn “Quinn” Callahan previously assessed the
Gaimin Gladiators' level of preparation for the BLAST Slam III tournament.
