Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov believes that in the past captains were responsible for drafts and coordination of the team on the map, but now part of the duties fell to the coach, and the role of the captain in the fifth position has lost relevance and remained in a nominal form.
The content maker voiced the corresponding opinion during a personal Twitch broadcast.
"In Dota there is no longer a concept of "captain" as in its time, now it is more nominal. Once upon a time, captain meant he drafted because they hadn't come up with a coach yet. He also coordinated the entire team because it was possible, the map was three times smaller, there were no facilities.
There used to be such a person - coordinator-drafting, all in one. Most often he was on the "five" because he didn't have to focus too much on the micro. The "five" in those days was an afk man. He'd be running around in the 20th minute with one boot, and his whole job was to press one button on the Disruptor."
The streamer also added that such a system is no longer workable now and cited soccer as an example, where the duties of the captain have also been reduced to more nominal ones. To summarize, Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov stated that there are no captains in Dota 2 anymore, only bad players in the fifth position.
"It doesn't work like that now, there are no more captains. Here's the captain in soccer, what does he have? A captain's armband, if anything he goes to argue with the referee to defend his title. In Dota it's the same - there are no captains anymore, only mediocrities on the "5's"."
Earlier Yaroslav "NS" Kuznetsov commented on the departure of Gleb "Kiyotaka" Zyryanov from
9 Pandas, saying that the next period of the player's career may be more successful.
