Alexander “Nix” Levin stated that the lack of patches and the oversaturation of tournaments have led to a loss of match significance, and fans no longer feel motivated to watch competitions.

The streamer shared this during a Twitch broadcast

“There hasn’t been a patch for a long time, so people have settled into a meta that’s relevant to them. Right now it’s very hard to watch Dota 2 because it hasn’t really changed in a while. In my opinion, there’s an oversaturation of tournaments. The value of matches is lost because there are just too many of them. Tournament after tournament. The International ended, a month later FISSURE started a couple of days after that came BLAST”

According to him, the stagnation in Dota 2’s meta is largely due to Valve not releasing patches for a long time. He also noted that the drop in tournament popularity isn’t solely the developers’ fault, as there is now an overabundance of competitions

The streamer emphasized that match value has been lost because sometimes there are only a few days between tournaments. It’s worth noting that even professional players themselves have complained about this, mentioning that the schedule is really too packed.

Interestingly, last season there were even cases where one tournament ended and the next one started just eight hours later.
