Even after a patch had already been put in place, players have found a way to exploit the
Smoke Of Deceit bug and find out if their enemies have active it.
This information was made public by Mark “sikle” Lerman, an analyst for
Team Spirit, on his Telegram channel.
From what he described, the change did reduce the length of time the bug could be abused, but players have incredibly managed to find a fresh new way to exploit it in Dota 2 matchmaking.
How the new Smoke of Deceit bug works:
Put any items of your own into the position of an opponent Smoke of Deceit or Observer Ward.
With the left mouse button on your item, drag it to the enemy’s portrait and whilst holding the button down, do not release it.
Now, double-click the right mouse button on the enemy portrait and then release the item on any part of the screen.
If there was a message prompt shown on the screen then the item has been left in position. If not, the Smoke of Deceit has already been activated.
Such exploits can lead to further misconducts during matchmaking and within the Dota 2 pro scene. The
NAVI Junior disqualification from competitions was a result of
Smoke Of Deceit bug abuse, along with fines handed out to various tier 1 teams after a lengthy investigation.
