Dmitry «Korb3n» Belov, Team Spirit's Dota 2 roster manager, told how the team's roster was formed.
It's hard to say how much time we spent in a vacuum, since we were waiting for some of the players from vacation. We started work at the end of July, and on September 27 we already had a ready roster. It turns out that the formation of a ready-made team took 2 months. It could have been faster, but there was no such task.
We needed a coach. We wanted to build a team from a coach, while there is a real shortage of specialists in CIS. There are many-speaking people, there are good specialists, but no experience, there are life-coaches. We needed a game coach, all the players with the same amount of experience as Silent's, either still play (Resolution, Fly), or have finished their careers long ago and understand little about Dota, or don't want to coach. So Ayrat is unique in its kind. The idea came simply: at the planning meeting we were discussing candidates, and Silent came to someone's mind. I worked with him 2 times in Team Empire, so I had information about him. We contacted Ayrat, he accepted our offer.
The bulk of its functions are precisely in this. Of course, Ayrat can defuse the situation or influence the out-of-game processes, but the tasks assigned to him by the management are somehow connected with the training process. Preparation, analysis, synthesis, communication, taxonomy, reporting.
I was engaged in scouting, i.e. Korb3n. Another point of view was our CEO, second manager DKLana and our coach Silent, they really helped me to look at certain players from a different vector. Ayrat helped in assessing the players in terms of the level of the game. 80 players were on the original list, in fact about 20-30 were tested, the remaining 50 dropped out for reasons more obvious than the level of the game. The selection was simple: after the rate and shortlist were compiled, we played Dota. I assessed the level of communication, the main character traits, the level of the game and made a personal portrait.
