Even though it's still in the playtest stage, the hero-shooter Deadlock is gaining a lot of popularity, and this is not surprising considering it was developed by Valve! Most importantly, as the game is expanding its horizon by welcoming new players the game is rising in popularity and is becoming one of the top games on the Steam platform. But how many people actually play Deadlock and is it worth waiting for in the future?
How Many People Play Deadlock?
According to a recent update from SteamDB, Deadlock broke its previous record of 171,490 users at the very start of September 2024. The game is only in an invite-only stage yet manages to get the attention of millions of players. 93625 players were tracked using the game in the past 24 hours while there are 61029 people connected to the game currently. The great thing about considering these stats is that the game does not allow everyone access and the game is just being launched.

Average Player Count and Growth
In the last month, Deadlock can count on approximately 41629 players, which is not bad for an early access game. Agreements that allow certain players to share the game with their friends generally resulted in constant growth of the population. The game frequently has up to and over one hundred thousand players at the same time which makes them retain users quite well.

Why is Deadlock So Popular?
Deadlock’s impressive growth can be attributed to many things one of which is its introduction of gameplay which is a shooting game with a blend of MOBA. Each player has a hero with a unique skill and his goal is to fetch Unsecured Souls that would help him in the game. This unique combination and the fact that Valve has a solid reputation of releasing profitable games, including Dota 2 or CS2, attracted many players from everywhere across the globe.
As it is previously mentioned earlier the game has had restricted access and limited playtest times stirring up anticipation. Due to this reason, the number of users appears to be on the higher end during the designated times. If Deadlock was around the clock and available to everyone these numbers would be even higher in that case. This is why people expect the draw out ratio of players to increase even more once the game becomes available to the public after the playtesting phase.
Comparison with Other Valve Titles
Though still in the closed beta most testing phase, Deadlock is already gaining traction on Steam’s top user active chart. It is now sitting at a rank slightly above the other major hits of Valve's, CS2 and Dota 2, which at this point have seen a comotose between them on the highest ranks. Given the expanding active user base and community participation, Deadlock has all the chances of elusive a top-tier status among the biggest live video game service titles on the store.
Future of Deadlock’s Player Base
As Valve gets ready to release Deadlock in full form, the chief question on everybodys thoughts is if the game will be able to maintain this. The continued player count on Deadlock and ever increasing Twitch viewer base Deadlock had peaked at 118,283 viewers on the platform, the signs are there that the game’s growth will persist. The widest exposure it is likely to get, where the highest figure so far of 171490 players is expected to be passed.
In Summary
Deadlock is already moving to be one of the most active game titles in the competitive gaming arena. With a good login retention rate on an invite only basis, decent concurrent numbers and organic interest coming from gamers and streamers alike, Deadlock has already established itself as a title on the radar. Since Valve has started easing further the restrictions, the Deadlock player count will definitely not stop growing and might become one of the leading games on Steam in due time.
