Artem "fng" Barshak, the former captain of
Virtus.pro, stated that Dota 2 tournaments will continue for at least another 5 years, after which everything will depend on viewer interest and the player base.
He shared this during a Twitch stream.
"I think there will be tournaments for another 5 years for sure, and after that, it's hard to say. Actually, it's better to say that I know for sure that there will be tournaments for at least another 5 years. After that, it will all come down to the numbers. As long as the community remains large, with high viewership and engagement, there’s no reason for Dota to die"
According to Fng, Dota 2 tournaments are secure for the next 5 years. However, the future of the Dota 2 pro scene beyond that depends on the community. He also believes that if Valve stops releasing updates, it could negatively affect the pro scene, but he doesn't see any signs of that happening yet.
"The only thing that could happen is Valve stopping updates, but I don’t see any reason for them to do that. They don’t need to do much – just shift the meta from time to time and that’s enough. Big innovations, like new features, should happen once every 3-4 years"
Fng also thinks that Valve doesn't need to do much to keep the pro scene afloat. In his opinion, major changes will likely come only every 3-4 years.
Earlier, Dmitry "Korb3n" Belov denied insider rumors about
Team Spirit new roster.
