Artem "Fng" Barshak, former captain of
Virtus.pro, revealed that
Team Spirit deliberately gives up lanes to their opponents but picks heroes that can ultimately win the match at The International 2024.
The esports player shared this during a Twitch stream.
"You need to understand that Spirit is a team that focuses on winning the map as a whole. They think about how to develop their carry, which carry is good, and how to execute fights. They don't prioritize winning lanes. For example, Omniknight and DK are not really about the lane but more about what happens later. Spirit does consider how to play the lanes, but it's not their top priority. It's easier to play in a way where you might lose the lanes a bit but have heroes that can win the game"
According to him,
Team Spirit doesn’t focus on gaining a short-term advantage by winning lanes; instead, they immediately build a strategy to win the match. This explains their unusual picks as two-time world champions.
As seen from the players' results, this strategy is paying off, as the team finished the group stage of TI13 undefeated.
It’s worth noting that
Tundra Esports had the second-fastest match in The International history, impressing both viewers and analysts at TI13.
