Support players are key in winning games in Dota 2 especially if you are looking to work on your MMR. Few support heroes in patch 7.37 have been performing quite well due to their mechanics being overhauled and how well they fit into the current meta. In this article, we will tell you about the best supports that were used in patch 7.37 and why it would be ideal for you to use them in order to increase your MMR.
Tinker — Innovator of Patch 7.37

Tinker was always considered a carry or mid hero, who can benefit his team, but remarkably he is now a great support. Following the updates in patch 7.37, his new ability Repair Bots makes the hero a true threat on the lane. These bots not only deal damage building them as useful allies but also heal allies using March of the Machines, turning Tinker into a mobile “healer” and tower defender.
Why is he relevant? To start with, he is able to play a potential support thanks to his itemization (leveling patterns and synergy with Guardian Greaves and Holy Locket). He is also a decent mid-game hero as he can clear neutral camps and repel enemy supports. MMR raising experienced players looking for experienced heroes will appreciate Tinker as he is hard to use and requires a fair amount of map awareness.
Good Allies: Tinker has good synergy with heroes such as Tidehunter or Magnus who can provide him the required amount of spacing and control enemies for him. Due to their massive stuns, Tinker is able to cast his abilities many steps away from the enemies.
Counterpicks: Heroes like sniping Nyx and Clockwerk which can quickly stab an enemy and bypass the shield of March of the Machines, makes Tinker weak.
Jakiro — A Universal Support for All Game Phases
Credit: Valve Corporation
Jakiro has been one of the reliable supports throughout the history of Dota 2 due to this combination of map control and dealing damage throughout all the phases of the game. Although his ability Liquid Frost was slightly nerfed in patch 7.37, It did not influence the hero’s strength that much. Ice Path and Macropyre augmented with Aghanim’s Scepter allow Jakiro to shine in team discussions during late stages of the game making him a good candidate for controlling areas around the map and putting weight on the opponent.
Jakiro has value on the lane and later in the game because of his large AoE abilities and brawly nature. He has a poor mobility however the fact that he can impact every stage of the match while farming faster then everyone else makes up for that weakness.
Good Allies: Jakiro can greatly benefit with the help of initiators such as Mars or Earthshaker so he can apply Macropyre to multiple enemies and maximize damage dealt.
Counterpicks: Here in the UI, mobile heroes such as Anti-Mage or Puck have an easier time not getting hit by his spells so engaging them can be difficult.
Sven — Protector Against Physical Damage

Up next is another interesting selection for a “support” role, Sven. Most people wouldn’t really want to consider the character in these tactics but it turns out he’s quite effective in boosting the MMR – not to mention he’s quite easy to use. Sven is beneficial because of the Warcry skill that makes all his allies receive less physical damage from the team. This has very useful effects against opponents who make heavy use of physical damage as Sven not only provides control but also additional durability to his allies.
Good Allies: Provides good synergy with Drow Ranger or Luna and other such physical damaging heroes.
Counterpicks: The Warcry’s bonuses can be neglected by magic heroes such as Lina or Zeus.
Treant Protector — Power of Healing and Control
Credit: Valve Corporation
Treant Protector remains The One No one Forget’s or students were placed over mid lane position in EL HZ as 46 in swf 2 had its peak a few patches ago. Lots have been able to role map with LQ and NQ. He remains skirmishing on the pull scepters to dominate the lane and team fights. Not only that the buff sapling provides makes you Campbell from patch 7.36 leaving trekkies no room for error or a comeback. Mid game chances of them countering towers with treant have hardly been successful.
Good Allies: Treant has throughout history been more suited for prolonged engagements because his healing and crowd control capabilities enable his teammates to win tougher encounters alongside his allies. A good example would be his synergization with Medusa or Spectre.
Counterpicks: Although he is considered one of the powerful heroes in DOTA 2, suffocating him requires heroes who deal high damage magic such as Leshrac or Venomancer.
Abaddon — The Best Savior
Credit: Valve Corporation
This hero is a former archon who specializes in saving teammates using his Aphotic Shield and ultimate Borrowed Time. In patch 7.37, the nerf did not have a huge negative impact on him being a good support due to his new aspect The Quickening. This makes him faster than other heroes, thus making him a good support. The hero in question becomes highly relevant in fights. In other words, he is great for long fights especially when he has aura items such as Solar Crest or Guardian Greaves.
Good Allies: Abaddon works well when partnered with heroes who go in a little too recklessly, such as Chaos Knight or Lifestealer, as he is able to provide assistance during their dangerous initiations.
Counterpicks: He faces tough opponents in the likes of Silencer or Grimstroke who are capable of rapidly targeting him.
Conclusion
We believe that by picking one of these supports in your games you will increase your MMR because each hero got his own specifics' like map control, healing or helping the team in any way. That is a very good sign because no matter how you play, whether you are aggressive or defensive, patch 7.37 has a support hero for you.
