Dota 2 main tournaments 2024: schedule, prize pools, participants

The new season of Dota 2 will be significantly different in 2024. Valve has decided to cancel the DPC, meaning that Major tournaments will no longer be held. However, ESL championships have stepped in to replace Valve's tournaments, and in most aspects, they are not inferior to Majors.
How many Majors will be in Dota 2 in 2024?
In 2024, Valve made significant changes to the Dota 2 competitive structure by canceling the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC), which traditionally included three Major tournaments per year. As a result, there are no official Valve-sponsored Majors in 2024.
Instead, the competitive calendar now revolves around tournaments organized by ESL and other third-party organizers. These tournaments, while not officially labeled as Majors, often feature comparable prize pools and EPT points, making them similarly prestigious. Key events in 2024 include:
BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024.
DreamLeague Season 22.
ESL One Birmingham 2024.
DreamLeague Season 23.
Riyadh Masters 2024.
DreamLeague Season 24.
ESL One Asia.
While these tournaments fill the gap left by the absence of Majors, they represent a shift in the competitive landscape, emphasizing third-party events over Valve's direct involvement.

The International 2024

The International 2024 (TI 13), the thirteenth edition of the most prestigious Dota 2 tournament, concluded on September 15, 2024, in Copenhagen, Denmark. For the first time since 2017, the tournament incorporated a direct invite system, alongside open and regional qualifiers, adding an element of unpredictability to the lineup. Split into two phases, The Road to The International included the qualifiers, group stage, and playoffs up to the top 8, while the final stage, branded as The International, determined the ultimate champion. With a base prize pool of $1,600,000 USD and an additional $1,176,566 USD raised through the sale of the 2024 Compendium, the total prize pool reached over $2.7 million, creating intense competition among the world's best teams.
The absence of the DPC this year brought unique challenges, leaving the community guessing about the qualification system until Valve introduced the new format. The tournament began earlier than previous years, starting on September 9, 2024, marking a significant shift in schedule. Fans eagerly tuned in as 20 teams battled through the grueling stages, culminating in a spectacular final that crowned Team [Winner] as the new champions, claiming the lion’s share of the prize pool and earning their place in Dota 2 history.
This year’s tournament also marked a return to a more community-driven prize pool, relying heavily on the success of the 2024 Battle Pass and Compendium sales. Despite initial uncertainties, the event was celebrated as one of the most exciting in TI history, blending tradition with new approaches to maintain its legacy as the pinnacle of Dota 2 esports.
