The recently released 7.38 Dota 2 update has introduced players to a new in-game currency known as ‘Madstone’ which can be used to craft certain neutral items. Players no longer have to depend solely on drops because now they can actually craft the necessary artifacts.
The announcement was made on the Dota 2 website.
In order for players to earn Madstones, they will be required to clear neutral creep camps. A camp that is completely destroyed will reward the user with two units of currency and one other unit to a random teammate. For Ancient creeps, the Madstone reward is higher: a three to the user, and two to a random ally.

In order to craft a neutral tier 1 item, 5 Madstones are required. This means the higher tier artifacts will cost 10 pieces each.

As the game is played, tiers unlock. Now every neutral item has two components, the artifact and the charms. An artifact is the core portion that has a special ability, while its charm provides an additional passive skill.
