It turns out that Dota 1 tournaments are still popular in China, and teams playing the first part of the legendary MOBA have even been allocated financial support ranging from $7,000 to $15,000.
This was reported by the Telegram channel “Muesli Chinese”:
"While Chinese Dota 2 is taking a break,
Chinese tournaments are being held in the first Dota — and very successfully.
There are a bunch of sponsors and contracts totaling 715,000 yuan (about $100,000).
Each team received support ranging from 50,000 to 110,000 yuan ($7,000–15,000).
For comparison, Tier 1 Chinese teams in Dota 2 receive about the same amount"
It is noted that despite the age of the game and the availability of the second part, the demand for Dota 1 tournaments remains high, and sponsorship contracts reach $100,000. Many were surprised that tournaments are still being held for the first Dota, and that teams are still receiving financial support.
Moreover, it is emphasized that such amounts are considered quite decent even for tier-1 teams in the region. It is possible that the continuing popularity of Dota 1 in China may eventually fuel interest in the game in other countries as well.
