Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin believes that in order to increase online activity in Dota 2, developers should introduce ranked seasons with rewards, following the example of World of Warcraft.
The player shared this opinion on Telegram.
"Now imagine what would happen if Dota introduced conditional ranked seasons with rewards.
For example, WoW has seasons. For each high ranking stage, you get an achievement, then a mount, then another achievement, and for the top 0.1, you get a super rare title. Obviously, a very high ranking is cool in itself.
What does a high ranking in Dota give you? It's just cool, no rewards. I think it would be cool to introduce an icon for reaching new rating heights (like the Inta visitor icon, for example, but with a rank) and a sticker. For example, if a player reaches “Titan” after “God” while playing as Warlock, they can attach a Warlock sticker to their favorite hero and put an icon on their profile. It's cute and nice from my point of view."
According to Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin, the game will become much more popular if players can receive valuable rewards for reaching each new rank, and the reward should be even more attractive for multiple rank increases during the season. The esports player suggests making seasons last from 8 to 12 months, after which the players' ratings would be reset, but calibration would be based on the rank for the previous period. The player believes that such innovations will help increase the number of online Dota 2 players to 1 million in 1-2 years.
"Of course, it's worth having more serious rewards, giving a choice of sets for each new rank (people love freebies, that's obvious). If you raise your rating a lot during the season (for example, from “Guardian” to “Titan”), then you should receive cooler rewards — make some kind of seasonal chest with cool sets (similar to what happened after Inta) and feed people keys to such a chest.
I think the season itself in Dota could last 8-12 months — not too long, but enough for you to significantly increase your rank. And in the new season, there will be a reset, as there was before, where players don't start from scratch, but are calibrated based on their previous rank.
What do you think? It seems that with at least these small changes, online earnings could reach 800k-1000k+ per month consistently in a year or two."
We would like to remind you that earlier, Alexander “TORONTOTOKYO” Hertek shared the opposite opinion, calling on Valve to abandon the idea of resetting the rating in Dota 2.
