Former Virtus.pro CEO - Roman Dvoryankin shared information on his Twitter that Alisports will no longer host WESG tournaments:
Little birdie told that Alibaba disbanded the eSports department inside Alisports a couple of months ago, and there will be no WESG tournaments. These were strange but fun tournaments, we will always remember our trips to Hainan and to Chongqing!
Alisport, which is part of the Alibaba Group, agreed to a three-year deal with Changzhou city in 2017, according to which Alisport will spend $150,000,000 on the eSports development.
The final stage of the World Electronic Sports Games 2019 tournament was to be held in spring 2020 in Chongqing, China. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tournament operator announced the cancellation of the finals. 24 teams from all over the world had to compete for the tournament prize pool of $800,000.
